Charles, MO (January 9, 2026) – A serious three-vehicle collision on Missouri 79 at T.R. Hughes Blvd in St. Charles County on Thursday evening resulted in two drivers being hospitalized, including one with serious injuries.
The crash occurred at approximately 5:43 p.m. on January 8. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the driver of a northbound 2023 Acura MDX became distracted by a phone and crossed the center line, crashing head-on into a 2005 Honda Civic traveling southbound. The impact caused both vehicles to spin, and during the rotation, the Civic struck a 2019 Chevrolet Spark head-on.
The 66-year-old St. Louis woman driving the Civic sustained serious injuries and was transported by the St. Charles County Ambulance District to Mercy Hospital St. Louis. The 59-year-old male driver of the Spark, from Old Monroe, suffered moderate injuries and was taken by St. Charles EMS to St. Joseph West in Lake St. Louis. The driver of the Acura, a 47-year-old man from St. Louis, was not reported injured.
All three vehicles were declared totaled and towed by Superior. Authorities confirmed that all individuals involved had been wearing safety restraints at the time of the collision.
Trooper D. Henson of Troop C is leading the investigation, with assistance from multiple units and the O’Fallon Police Department. Distraction behind the wheel has been identified as a primary factor in the crash.
