Head-on Crashes on Divided Roadways
Head-on crashes can be severe because vehicles often collide while traveling in opposite directions. The force of impact can cause major damage and life-threatening injuries, especially when one vehicle crosses into another lane.
Roadway layout can affect how these crashes unfold. Curves, lighting, traffic speed, and lane markings may all shape driver reaction time. Even a brief lane departure can leave oncoming drivers with little space to avoid a collision.
After a serious crash, officials often review vehicle paths, impact points, and damage patterns. Road conditions and witness statements may also help show what happened before the collision. These details can take time to collect, especially when a large section of road is closed.
