Chesapeake, VA (January 1, 2026) – A wrong-way driver triggered a series of crashes Wednesday night on the Route 168 Expressway in Chesapeake, prompting an emergency response from local law enforcement. The incident occurred just after 8:40 p.m. between Battlefield Blvd and Hillcrest Pkwy in the southbound lanes.
According to Chesapeake Police, a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes caused several collisions before coming to a stop. Multiple vehicles were affected, though authorities have stated there were no reports of serious injuries resulting from the crashes.
The driver at the center of the incident, identified as 51-year-old Daniel Tucker, was taken into custody at the scene. Officials have not yet released further details regarding potential charges or what led Tucker to drive the wrong direction on the expressway.
