How Debris from Truck Crashes Can Affect Expressway Traffic
Arterial routes like Interstate 90/94 near Kostner Avenue carry high volumes of traffic throughout the day. After a crash in Chicago, crews often restrict lanes to manage hazards and protect drivers moving through the area.
When large trucks are involved, debris such as cargo or vehicle parts can spread across multiple lanes. This can create sudden obstacles for drivers and increase the risk of additional crashes if traffic cannot slow down in time.
Clearing debris safely takes time, especially on busy expressways. Crews may close several lanes to remove hazards and allow traffic to pass more safely once conditions improve.
