What Can Contribute to Early Morning Traffic Accidents in Urban Areas?
Mixed-use streets like West Jackson Boulevard and South Homan Avenue can see different traffic patterns throughout the day. In Chicago, early morning hours often bring lighter traffic, but that can also lead to higher speeds and reduced attention from drivers.
Fatigue is another factor that may affect drivers during early hours. People on the road at that time may be finishing long shifts or starting early commutes, which can impact reaction time and awareness. Reduced visibility before sunrise can also make it harder to judge distances and notice other vehicles.
Urban intersections can present added challenges due to traffic signals, cross traffic, and turning movements. Even when roads appear less crowded, these conditions can still increase the risk of collisions.
