What Risks Are Common in Pedestrian Crashes on Busy Roads?
Busy approaches near South Harlem Avenue can change quickly when pedestrian activity and vehicle traffic overlap. After a serious incident in Bridgeview, traffic flow may be affected as crews work to secure the scene and assist those involved.
Pedestrian crashes often occur on multi-lane roads where drivers may have limited time to react. When vehicles travel at higher speeds, stopping distances increase, making it harder to avoid someone crossing the roadway. Visibility can also be reduced at night, adding another layer of risk.
Crossing outside marked areas or during low-light conditions can raise the chance of a crash. Street lighting, driver awareness, and roadway design all influence how safely pedestrians and vehicles share the road.
