Why Bicycle Crashes Involving Children Can Lead to Serious Injuries
Children riding bicycles are especially vulnerable during traffic collisions because they have limited physical protection. Even when riding in familiar neighborhoods, intersections can present risks due to crossing traffic, turning vehicles, and visibility challenges.
Head injuries are among the most serious outcomes of bicycle crashes, which is why safety experts encourage the use of properly fitted helmets. Investigators often examine factors such as vehicle movement, roadway design, sight lines, and the actions of everyone involved when reviewing these incidents. Neighborhood intersections near parks and recreational areas may experience increased bicycle and pedestrian activity, particularly during warmer months when more children are outdoors.
