Las Vegas, NV (June 30, 2026) – An 8-year-old was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle while crossing North Las Vegas Boulevard on Sunday night, June 28. The collision happened at approximately 9:33 p.m., west of the intersection with North Lamb Boulevard.

A 2011 Hyundai Elantra was traveling northbound on Las Vegas Boulevard when the child crossed into its path outside of a marked or implied crosswalk. The front of the vehicle struck the kid, propelling them onto the roadway.

The child was taken to University Medical Center, where injuries were determined to be critical. It remains unclear whether the child was alone or accompanied by an adult at the time of the wreck.

The Hyundai driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment. The accident remains under active investigation. We hope the child makes a full recovery.

What Happens When a Child Is Struck by a Vehicle Outside a Crosswalk?

Children crossing outside of marked or implied crosswalks face a greater risk because drivers may not anticipate a pedestrian in that part of the road. At night, visibility is further reduced, giving drivers even less time to react when someone steps into their path. These factors are typically examined closely when investigators review a crash involving a child pedestrian.

When a young patient arrives at a trauma center with critical injuries, medical teams prioritize rapid assessment to identify internal injuries that may not be visible externally. Children can sometimes show fewer outward signs of serious trauma than adults, which makes thorough evaluation especially important. Pediatric trauma units are equipped to handle the specific medical needs of younger patients in these situations.

Drivers who remain at the scene and show no signs of impairment are still subject to a full investigation, since fault and circumstances are determined separately from whether a driver stayed or fled. Investigators document the vehicle’s speed, the pedestrian’s path, and all available physical evidence to build a complete picture of how the collision unfolded.
