Why E-Bike Crashes Can Lead to Serious Injuries for Young Riders
E-bikes can travel faster than standard bicycles, which may increase the chance of serious injuries during roadway collisions. Young riders are especially vulnerable because they have less protection than people inside larger vehicles. Even at lower speeds, falls or contact with traffic can lead to head injuries, broken bones, or other medical concerns.
Busy intersections usually create additional risks for e-bike riders. Drivers may have difficulty seeing smaller vehicles while turning or changing lanes, especially during heavier traffic periods. Road markings, visibility, and traffic signals can also affect how safely cyclists move through intersections.
Protective gear, such as helmets, may help reduce injury severity. Many communities also continue reviewing how e-bikes interact with vehicle traffic as their use becomes more common on public roads.
