Monticello, MN (June 26, 2026) – A 10-year-old passenger was injured on Friday morning, June 26, after a three-vehicle crash on eastbound Interstate 94 in Monticello. The accident happened around 5:44 a.m. near mile marker 194 in Wright County.

The Minnesota State Patrol said a Chevrolet Silverado, a Ford F-150, and a Dodge Grand Caravan were all traveling east on Interstate 94. The vehicles collided after a stalled vehicle blocked the right lane.

The injured child was a passenger in the Dodge Grand Caravan. He was taken to Monticello Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The drivers of the Grand Caravan, Ford F-150, and Chevrolet Silverado were not hurt. State Patrol listed the road surface as dry at the time. Wright County officials, CentraCare, and Monticello Fire assisted after the collision; they are reviewing the wreck on Interstate 94 near mile marker 194.

We hope the injured child receives proper care and recovers safely.

How Stalled Vehicles Can Create Sudden Highway Hazards

A stalled vehicle on a highway can quickly become dangerous, especially when it blocks an active lane. Drivers may have only seconds to slow down, merge, or react to stopped traffic ahead.

Multi-vehicle crashes can develop when several drivers encounter the same blocked lane at nearly the same time. Even on dry roads, traffic speed and limited reaction time can make it harder to avoid a collision.

After a highway accident involving a child passenger, emergency crews may check everyone involved, even when injuries appear limited. Investigators usually review lane blockage, vehicle positions, and driver movement before confirming the full sequence of events.
