After the initial collision, the tractor-trailer continued forward, struck a Volvo box truck, then left the roadway and hit a guardrail. The juvenile passenger in the Subaru sustained fatal injuries.
The Freightliner driver and the Subaru driver were taken to a hospital with moderate injuries. No additional details about their identities were released.
The crash caused significant delays in the southbound truck lanes, while the car lanes were already closed overnight due to construction. The investigation remains ongoing. We extend our deepest condolences to the child’s family and loved ones.
What Happens During a Multi-Vehicle Truck Crash Investigation?
Multi-vehicle crashes involving commercial trucks often require a detailed review because several vehicles may be involved in a chain of events. Investigators typically examine vehicle positions, roadway conditions, and damage patterns to understand how the collision developed.
Large trucks may require more distance to slow down or stop than smaller vehicles. Factors such as traffic flow, visibility, following distance, and driver actions may be considered when reviewing a rear-end collision involving a tractor-trailer.
Investigators may also examine available camera footage, vehicle records, and statements from people involved or witnesses. These details can help create a timeline of what happened before and after each vehicle made contact.
Truck lane crashes on major highways can also cause significant traffic disruptions due to the size of the vehicles involved and the space required for inspections.
