Richfield Township, MI (June 4, 2026) – A utility truck collision in Richfield Township resulted in the death of an eight-month-old child and left another child seriously injured following a crash at North State Rd and Clark Rd.

Court testimony from a crash reconstructionist indicated the utility truck was traveling about 55 miles per hour at the point of contact with a Jeep Patriot. The expert also testified that the driver, identified as Adam Hooper, did not apply the brakes before the rear-end collision.

Authorities said Hooper is facing multiple criminal charges, including manslaughter involving a vehicle, two counts related to moving violations causing impairment of body function, and tampering with evidence. The crash occurred on March 12.

The infant died as a result of the collision, while another child inside the Jeep suffered serious injuries. Further details regarding the condition of the second child were not released.

The case remains under legal review as proceedings continue in court. We extend our deepest condolences to the family affected by this devastating loss.

How Rear-End Crashes at High Speeds Can Lead to Severe Outcomes

High-speed rear-end collisions can cause significant force transfer between vehicles, especially when a heavier vehicle strikes a smaller passenger car. At speeds around 55 miles per hour, the energy involved in a crash can result in major structural damage and serious occupant injuries.

When braking does not occur before impact, occupants in the struck vehicle may have little time to react or brace. Child passengers are particularly vulnerable due to their size and seating position, even when properly restrained.

Crash reconstruction efforts often examine speed, braking data, vehicle damage patterns, and roadway evidence to determine how a collision developed. These findings can play a key role in understanding liability and the sequence of events in serious roadway crashes.
