What Risks Are Associated with Freeway Interchange Crashes?
Transitional zones between highways and connecting routes near State Route 54 and Interstate 5 can increase crash risk. In Chula Vista, these areas often involve curved ramps and changing speeds that require careful control from drivers.
Losing control in these sections can have serious consequences due to elevation changes and barriers. When vehicles leave the roadway at higher speeds, they may travel beyond guardrails or off elevated structures.
Nighttime conditions can also affect visibility and reaction time. Reduced lighting and unfamiliar road layouts may make it harder for drivers to adjust quickly while navigating interchanges.
