How Early Morning Rain Can Affect Road Safety
Crashes that occur before sunrise often involve limited visibility and changing road conditions. Wet pavement from steady rain or downpours can reduce tire traction, making it harder for drivers to stop quickly or maintain control.
During early morning hours, traffic may be lighter, but drivers can still face hazards such as pooled water or slick surfaces. Flood-prone areas can become especially risky when rainfall continues over several hours.
Rain can also impact reaction time. Glare from headlights reflecting off wet pavement may make it harder to judge distance. In these conditions, reduced speeds and increased following distance can help lower the risk of a collision.
