Citrus County, FL (May 14, 2026) – An 85-year-old Homosassa man lost his life Wednesday morning following a crash involving a minivan and a tractor-trailer in Citrus County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Authorities said the collision occurred around 7:50 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 19 and U.S. 98. The driver of the Chrysler was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

Fatal Intersection Crashes Involving Large Trucks
Collisions involving passenger vehicles and tractor-trailers at major intersections often result in severe damage due to the size and weight difference between the vehicles. Busy highway intersections can become especially dangerous during turning movements and heavy traffic periods.
Safety officials encourage drivers to remain alert at intersections, obey traffic control signals, and allow sufficient time and space before crossing or turning in front of large commercial vehicles. Crashes involving tractor-trailers may also increase the risk of post-collision fires and roadway closures.
