What Happens When a Vehicle Strikes the Rear of a Truck on a Highway?
Rear-end crashes involving large trucks often lead to severe outcomes due to the size and height difference between vehicles. When a smaller vehicle hits the back of a truck, the front of the car can slide under the truck, causing major damage to the passenger area.
Early morning conditions can also affect visibility and reaction time. Low light, fatigue, or limited sight distance may reduce a driver’s ability to respond quickly to slower-moving vehicles ahead.
Vehicle speed is another factor. At higher speeds, the force of impact increases, raising the risk of fire or serious damage. Safety features like underride guards on trucks are designed to reduce this risk, but the outcome still depends on the circumstances at the time of the crash.
