Clearwater, FL (May 17, 2026) – Clearwater Fire & Rescue crews responded to two separate residential fires overnight, late Saturday night, May 16, and another early Sunday morning, according to officials. The incidents occurred at two different locations in the city.

The first fire was reported at 11:48 p.m. Saturday at 19135 US Highway 19 North. Emergency units responded to the scene and found a kitchen fire. Investigators later determined the blaze started due to unattended cooking. One resident was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The second fire was reported at 3:51 a.m. on Sunday at 1439 Cleveland Street. Officials said no injuries were reported in that incident. However, five residents were displaced and are receiving assistance from the Red Cross while they arrange temporary housing.

The cause of the second fire has not yet been determined, and the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities continue to review both incidents.

We are thinking of those affected and wishing them a safe recovery from the damage.

What Are Common Causes and Reviews After Residential Fires?

Residential fires are often reviewed to determine how and where the fire started, especially in cases involving kitchens or appliances. Investigators typically look at heat sources, cooking activity, and electrical systems to identify possible ignition points.

Unattended cooking is one of the most common causes of house fires, and officials often assess stove conditions and nearby materials that may have contributed to the spread. In multi-resident buildings, fire spread patterns and alarm response times are also reviewed.

For fires with no immediate injuries, damage assessments and displacement impacts are typically documented. In ongoing investigations, officials continue analyzing physical evidence and scene conditions before releasing conclusions.
