Why Crashes Involving School Buses Often Lead to Road Closures
Even when school buses are not carrying students, crashes involving these large vehicles can significantly disrupt traffic. Their size can block multiple lanes and complicate the removal of vehicles during cleanup efforts.
Intersections in urban areas often experience heavy traffic during the morning hours, increasing the risk of multi-vehicle collisions. Drivers may have limited time to react when traffic slows suddenly near intersections or bus routes.
Investigators commonly review vehicle positioning, traffic signal timing, and witness statements after these crashes. Road closures are frequently necessary to allow responders to safely assist injured people and remove damaged vehicles from the roadway.
