Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a fatal crash investigation like this typically take?
Patrol reconstruction teams often need several weeks to finish mapping the scene, reviewing vehicle data and interviewing witnesses before issuing a final report. Charges, if any, can take longer to decide.
Does impairment usually factor into fatal two-vehicle crashes?
Alcohol or drug use is involved in a meaningful share of fatal crashes nationally, but investigators only confirm impairment after toxicology results come back, which can take weeks.
What makes a passing maneuver on a rural road so risky?
Passing another vehicle means briefly crossing into oncoming traffic with less time to react if something is already approaching. Low light, like the darkness before dawn, narrows that window further.
What to Do After a Two-Vehicle Crash in Clinton Township, Ohio
If you're involved in a two-vehicle wreck on a rural road, move to a safe spot if the car is drivable and call 911 right away. Even if you feel fine, get checked by a medical provider soon after, since injuries from a crash don't always show symptoms immediately. Exchange information with the other driver, note any road or lighting conditions that seemed unusual, and ask responding officers how to get a copy of the crash report once it's filed. If you're a passenger or witness, write down what you remember while it's fresh, since small details can matter later.
