Cocoa, FL (January 5, 2026) – A tragic crash in Cocoa Village claimed the life of a 25-year-old woman and injured another man after a pickup truck left the roadway and struck pedestrians on January 3. The incident occurred just after 1 p.m. on Brevard Avenue and was witnessed by numerous people in the busy shopping and arts district.

According to the Cocoa Police Department, the driver of a 2016 Dodge Ram 1500, a 64-year-old man, suffered a medical emergency that caused him to lose control of the vehicle. The truck veered onto the sidewalk, hitting two pedestrians before crashing into the Cocoa Village Playhouse.

The victim has been identified as Lexis Julia Jordan. Emergency crews arrived quickly and found her unresponsive on the ground. Bystanders reported that CPR was being administered at the scene before she was taken for further treatment. Tragically, she was later pronounced dead.

Another male pedestrian was also struck and sustained injuries. His condition has not yet been publicly released.

Eyewitnesses described the incident as horrifying. One witness, a local shopper, shared that the scene unfolded just feet away from where she and her daughter had been walking. “We looked back, and we saw that happen… my daughter’s riding on her scooter. It could have been us,” she said.

The crash is under investigation, and authorities are working to confirm all contributing factors, including the driver’s medical condition. No criminal charges have been announced at this time.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Lexis Julia Jordan and wish the injured man a full recovery.

Pedestrian Fatalities in Florida’s Urban Districts

The deadly pedestrian crash that occurred on January 3 in Cocoa Village highlights the vulnerability of pedestrians in even well-trafficked, community-centered spaces. In this case, the combination of a medical emergency and a bustling sidewalk created the conditions for a devastating outcome.

Florida consistently ranks among the highest in the nation for pedestrian fatalities, and crashes like this demonstrate why awareness, infrastructure, and response protocols are all critical to safety. Even when sidewalks and crosswalks are present, an out-of-control vehicle can present sudden and life-threatening danger.

Cocoa Village, a popular cultural and retail destination, was filled with families and pedestrians at the time of the crash. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic and deeply emotional, underscoring the far-reaching impact such events have on tight-knit communities.

Medical emergencies behind the wheel pose unique challenges for crash prevention. While not all can be foreseen, incidents like this may lead to calls for additional safety measures in pedestrian-heavy zones, including barriers or modified traffic patterns to protect those on foot.
