Why Are Wrong-Way Crashes on Highways So Dangerous?
Transitional zones between highways and surface streets near Interstate 75 can increase crash risk. Crews in Collier County manage merging traffic carefully, especially when incidents disrupt normal flow.
Wrong-way crashes often result in severe outcomes because vehicles are traveling directly toward each other at high speeds. Drivers typically have very little time to react, which can increase the force of impact.
Factors such as impaired driving, confusion at highway entrances, and reduced visibility can contribute to these incidents. On busy highways, even a brief error can lead to a serious and sometimes fatal crash.
