Colorado Springs, CO (January 28, 2026) – Two men were killed Wednesday morning after a serious collision between a pickup truck and an SUV at the busy intersection of Marksheffel Rd and Carefree Cir in Colorado Springs. The deadly accident occurred during the height of the morning rush hour and caused major disruption as emergency crews rushed to the scene.
Officials reported that a Ford F-150 pickup truck and an SUV collided with significant force. The impact caused the truck to erupt into flames, leaving heavy debris scattered across the intersection. Fire crews worked quickly to control the blaze while responders assessed those involved in the crash.
Tragically, both men inside the pickup truck were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have identified the victims only as a 42-year-old man and a 19-year-old man. The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries and was evaluated by medical personnel, though they were not reported to be in critical condition.
The intersection remained heavily impacted during the response as police closed portions of the roadway to allow emergency crews to work safely and investigators to document evidence. Witness accounts provided to State Patrol indicated the truck may have run a red light, and officials noted that speed could have been a contributing factor as well.
The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation, and additional details are expected as authorities continue reviewing the incident.
We send our deepest condolences to the families of the men who lost their lives and hope the injured individual recovers fully.
