Colorado Springs, CO (March 22, 2026) – A bicyclist was seriously injured on Friday evening, March 20, in a hit-and-run crash on South Academy Boulevard near Pace Drive in Colorado Springs.
Authorities said the woman was riding an electric dirt bike near the intersection when she was struck by a black SUV that was turning left. The driver fled the scene after the collision.

Why Left-Turn Crashes Can Be Dangerous for Cyclists
Left-turn collisions are a common cause of bicyclist crashes, especially when drivers fail to notice oncoming traffic. Even at low speeds, vehicles can inflict serious injuries due to their weight and momentum.
Cyclists on electric bikes may travel faster than expected, making it harder for drivers to judge timing. Limited visibility, intersection layouts, and driver distraction can increase risk. Both cyclists and drivers benefit from heightened awareness, clear signaling, and caution when approaching intersections.
