Colorado Springs, CO (March 7, 2026) – Two people were critically injured on Thursday evening after a motorcycle collided with a pickup truck on eastbound Highway 24 at 21st Street in Colorado Springs.
The crash occurred just after 6 p.m. Police reported that the motorcycle, traveling east at high speed, struck the back of a pickup truck that was turning right on red. Both the motorcycle driver and passenger were ejected during the collision.
Emergency units transported the driver and passenger to a hospital with critical injuries. No other injuries were reported. The Major Crash Team responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. Authorities do not suspect impairment, but they are examining speed as a possible factor.
Officials continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and additional details will be released as they become available. Our thoughts are with the injured as they receive medical care.
Motorcycle Crashes and the Impact of Speed
Motorcycle collisions often lead to serious injuries because riders lack the protection of an enclosed vehicle. High speeds increase the force of impact, making ejections more likely and injuries more severe.
Turning vehicles can also pose significant risks, especially when other drivers misjudge the speed of oncoming motorcycles. Even at lower speeds, impacts with larger vehicles can be dangerous due to the weight and structure of trucks and pickups. Protective gear and defensive riding help reduce injury risk, but sudden crashes can still result in critical harm. Emergency responders must act quickly to provide medical attention and secure the scene.
