Frequently Asked Questions
What gear helps protect a motorcycle rider in a crash?
A DOT-approved helmet, a padded jacket and pants, gloves and over-the-ankle boots can reduce the severity of head, road-rash and limb injuries in a crash.
What usually causes motorcycle crashes like this one?
Common causes include a vehicle failing to see the motorcycle, unsafe lane changes, speeding and turns made in front of an oncoming rider. The cause of this crash has not been released.
Why do motorcycle crashes tend to cause more serious injuries than car crashes?
A motorcycle offers no outer frame or airbags, so riders absorb impact directly and are frequently thrown from the bike onto the roadway.
How do left-turning vehicles cause collisions with motorcycles?
A driver turning left across traffic may misjudge a motorcycle's speed or distance, or not see it at all, and pull into its path as it approaches the intersection.
