Frequently Asked Questions
What should a pedestrian do after being hit by a car?
Get to a safe area if possible, call 911, and seek medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor, since some, like head or internal injuries, aren't immediately obvious. Get the names of witnesses and the responding agency's report number if you're able.
Who has the right of way at a crosswalk?
Pedestrians in a marked or unmarked crosswalk generally have the right of way, but drivers and walkers both need to watch for each other, especially at night or in low visibility, since right-of-way rules don't prevent a collision by themselves.
What injuries are most common in pedestrian accidents?
Pedestrians struck by vehicles frequently suffer broken bones, head and brain injuries, and internal injuries. Severity usually depends on the vehicle's speed and size at the moment of impact.
