CONCORD, Contra Costa County, Calif., Oct. 31, 2026 — A motorcyclist was injured on Friday afternoon, October 30, in a crash on eastbound State Route 4 west of Port Chicago Highway in Concord.
The California Highway Patrol said a motorcycle collided with a dark-colored sedan near the Port Chicago Highway interchange shortly before 4 p.m. The rider went down in the middle lanes of the freeway and was reportedly found lying in the roadway, conscious and talking, while a family member who happened to be an EMS worker stayed with the patient until help arrived.
A second vehicle, described as a white car, was also reportedly involved and came to a stop blocking the number one lane. Contra Costa County Fire Protection District units responded to the scene and requested a medical transfer for the injured rider. At least two lanes of eastbound SR-4 were blocked during the response, and officers remained on scene directing traffic around the crash.
No information on the rider's condition beyond the initial reports has been released, and the extent of the injuries has not been confirmed. The cause of the crash, including which vehicle may have been involved in the initial impact, remains under investigation. The CHP has not said whether speed or impairment played a role.
We wish those injured a full recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why can motorcycle crashes lead to more serious injuries than other vehicle collisions?
Riders have no frame or airbags around them, so a crash that a car's occupants might walk away from can throw a motorcyclist onto the pavement or into another vehicle.
How do collisions like this typically happen in freeway traffic?
Many motorcycle crashes occur when another driver fails to see the rider while changing lanes or merging, closing the gap a motorcycle needs to react.
What can drivers do to watch for motorcycles on the road?
Checking mirrors and blind spots twice before changing lanes, and leaving extra following distance, gives drivers more time to spot a motorcycle's smaller profile.
What should a rider do after a motorcycle crash?
Riders should stay still if injured and wait for emergency responders, and should seek a medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor at first.
