Frequently Asked Questions
Does speed affect whether people survive a crash? Yes. Higher speeds increase the force of impact and reduce the time a driver has to react, which raises the chance of serious injury or death.
Why is seat belt use so important? Seat belts keep occupants from being thrown from the vehicle or thrown into the windshield or roof, and they spread crash force across stronger parts of the body.
What should a family do after a fatal crash? Families can contact the investigating agency, in this case Detroit Police, for updates and can request a copy of the crash report once it's completed.
How do police investigate a fatal crash? Specialized units, like the Fatal Squad here, respond to document the scene, collect evidence, interview witnesses, and determine how the crash happened before issuing a final report.
