PHILADELPHIA, Philadelphia County, Pa., Oct. 31, 2026 — A Philadelphia police officer was struck by a vehicle on Friday afternoon, October 30, in the 5600 block of Germantown Avenue. The officer was reported in stable condition following the collision.
The police said the incident unfolded around 5 p.m. as traffic backed up in the area. A black vehicle reportedly approached the stopped traffic while honking, then pushed forward and struck several other vehicles as the driver tried to get away.
Officers arrived shortly after and got out of their patrol car with weapons drawn. Surveillance video reviewed by authorities shows the vehicle then accelerating toward one of the officials and hitting him, with enough force that the vehicle briefly left the ground. Authorities pulled the driver from the vehicle and took him into custody at the scene.
A woman who works at a nearby daycare told reporters that staff initiated a "code blue" lockdown and moved children to the back of the building after hearing the crashes, and said she did not see what happened afterward.
The police have not released the driver's identity, said whether charges have been filed, or disclosed what led up to the traffic stop. The investigation continues.
We wish the injured a complete and speedy recovery.
