What Are the Legal Consequences of a Drug-Impaired Hit-and-Run in Ohio?
In Ohio, leaving the scene of a crash that results in a fatality is a serious felony offense that carries significant prison time. When combined with an OVI charge involving drug impairment, a driver can face multiple felony counts that courts treat separately. The combined charges can result in lengthy sentences, especially when a death is involved.
Ohio law treats drug-impaired driving with the same severity as alcohol-impaired driving. Aggravated vehicular homicide involving impairment is typically classified as a second-degree felony in the state. Prosecutors in these cases often pursue the maximum penalties available, particularly when the driver also chose to flee rather than stop and render aid.
