Auglaize County, OH (August 7, 2026) – A construction worker lost his life on Wednesday after being struck by a vehicle while directing traffic in a work zone along US-33 in Clay Township.
The fatal collision happened just east of State Route 65 in the eastbound lanes. A preliminary investigation found that a 35-year-old man was driving eastbound in a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee when the SUV hit the flagger working in the construction zone.
The worker was identified as Troy Ray, 58, of Clyde, Ohio. The Jeep driver was wearing a seat belt and was not hurt. Investigators also said alcohol and drugs are not believed to have been factors in the accident; however, they are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
