Dallas, TX (June 20, 2026) – A construction worker died on Thursday afternoon after a trench collapse at an apartment complex in far northwest Dallas near Coppell.
The fatal workplace accident happened at approximately 3:20 p.m. on June 18 in the 2200 block of Sage Hill Lane near Olympus Boulevard. According to officials, workers were manually digging a tunnel beneath the Sage Hill at the Cypress Waters apartment complex when the trench collapsed and trapped a 29-year-old worker.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased worker as Josias David Pedro Aquino. Rescue personnel were called to the site and worked to reach Aquino by cutting through a concrete floor and removing about three feet of dirt. He was pronounced dead at the site at approximately 3:30 p.m.
City representatives said the collapse occurred while concrete was being poured. Despite the cave-in beneath the structure, the apartment building remained intact.
