Multi-Vehicle Crashes on I-5 in Contra Costa County
Highways like I-5 in Contra Costa County can quickly become dangerous when multiple vehicles are involved in a collision. Even minor impacts can trigger chain-reaction crashes, especially in areas with several lanes of traffic. Drivers may not have enough time to react to sudden stops or lane changes.
Vehicles of different sizes and speeds, from compact cars to SUVs, increase the potential severity of these crashes. Lane blockages can further complicate the situation, as onlookers and other drivers must navigate around disabled vehicles. Understanding how traffic density and roadway design affect response times can help explain why multi-vehicle crashes occur.
