Frequently Asked Questions
What should someone do right after being hit by a driver who flees the scene?
Move to a safe spot if possible, call 911, and try to note details about the other vehicle, such as color, make, or direction of travel. Dash camera or nearby surveillance footage can help investigators identify the driver later.
How do road and traffic conditions factor into crashes like this one?
Heavy traffic, poor visibility at night, and fast-moving freeway lanes can all make it harder for drivers to react in time or to stop safely after a collision, which may contribute to a driver fleeing rather than stopping.
Where do most hit-and-run crashes tend to happen?
They commonly occur on busy roads and freeways where traffic keeps moving, and it's easier for a fleeing driver to blend in, as well as in areas with limited lighting or camera coverage.
What can drivers do to stay safer on freeways like SR-91?
Keeping a safe following distance, staying alert near on-ramps and exits, and avoiding distractions can help drivers react to sudden slowdowns or merging traffic.
