Frequently Asked Questions
Why is distracted driving a common factor in highway crashes?
Even a few seconds of looking away from the road at highway speeds covers a significant distance, leaving little time to react to slowing or stopped traffic ahead.
How do road and weather conditions affect crash risk?
Wet pavement, poor visibility, and heavy traffic can all extend stopping distances and make it harder for drivers to react in time, raising the chance of a collision.
What should I do right after a car accident?
Move to a safe location if possible, check for injuries, call 911, and exchange information with the other driver. Documenting the scene with photos can also help later.
Where do most traffic crashes happen?
Many crashes occur on busy highways and at intersections, where vehicles are merging, slowing, or changing lanes in proximity to each other.
