Frequently Asked Questions
What typically causes crashes involving multiple vehicles on freeways like I-710?
Multi-vehicle crashes usually stem from sudden braking, lane changes, or one driver misjudging the speed or position of another vehicle, which can trigger a chain reaction in heavy traffic.
Why does speed make a freeway crash more serious?
Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force of impact, which raises the likelihood of serious injury, especially in multi-vehicle pileups.
How does distracted driving contribute to crashes like this one?
A driver who looks away from the road for even a few seconds can miss a slowing vehicle ahead or a lane change, which is frequent enough to cause a chain-reaction collision.
Do weather or road conditions play a role in freeway crashes?
Wet pavement, glare, or debris can reduce traction and visibility, making it harder for drivers to stop safely or avoid a vehicle ahead of them.
