Why Center-Line Crossings Frequently Lead to Severe Collisions
Collisions involving a vehicle crossing the center line tend to produce significant damage because both vehicles may still be traveling at roadway speeds when they meet. Even when one driver attempts to avoid the other, there is often very little time or distance available to prevent contact.
Investigators typically examine tire marks, vehicle damage, debris patterns, and the final resting positions of the vehicles to determine how the collision unfolded. They may also review roadway design, visibility, weather conditions, and any possible mechanical issues. These findings help establish the sequence of events and provide a clearer understanding of the factors that contributed to the collision.
