Why Late-Night Pedestrian Crashes Can Turn Deadly
Pedestrian crashes that occur during late-night or early morning hours can be especially severe due to reduced visibility and delayed reaction times. Drivers may have difficulty seeing people crossing or standing in the roadway, particularly in areas with limited lighting.
Speeding can further increase the severity of impact, reducing the time a driver has to avoid a collision. When alcohol is involved, judgment and coordination can be significantly impaired, increasing the likelihood of serious outcomes.
Hit-and-run situations also delay immediate assistance, which can affect survival chances in critical injuries. Safety experts encourage drivers to remain alert and avoid impaired driving, while pedestrians are urged to use well-lit crossings whenever possible.
