Rehoboth, DE (August 31, 2026) – A crash involving multiple vehicles was reported on Saturday, August 29, at Route 24 and Hudson Way in the Rehoboth area.

The crash was reported around 9:11 p.m., prompting a response from multiple emergency agencies, including Lewes and Rehoboth fire and EMS crews, Delaware State Police, and Medics. A Level 1 mass casualty incident was initially declared after officials reported as many as six possible patients.

Four ambulances transported patients from the scene. Although the initial dispatch included a report of possible entrapment, command later advised that there was no entrapment. The Delaware State Police aviation unit was also initially requested but ultimately was not utilized. Traffic was expected to be redirected while emergency crews worked at the scene.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this crash and their loved ones. We wish all those injured a full and speedy recovery.

What Does a Level 1 Mass Casualty Incident Mean?

A mass casualty incident designation is primarily used to help emergency agencies coordinate resources when a large number of patients may need assistance. The designation does not by itself describe how serious the injuries are or indicate that every person involved has been seriously hurt. Instead, it allows dispatchers and responding agencies to prepare additional personnel, ambulances, equipment, and other resources.

A Level 1 designation generally corresponds to an incident involving a potential group of patients that can require expanded coordination. The exact response can change as crews assess the scene and determine how many people actually need medical care. Resources that are initially requested may also be canceled when they are no longer necessary.

Drivers approaching a crash involving a large emergency response should slow down and follow directions from police and other personnel. Temporary traffic redirection can help keep responders and patients safe while ambulances move in and out of the area. Motorists should avoid distractions and remain prepared for sudden changes in traffic patterns near an active emergency scene.

1Seek treatment promptly after being injured in an accident. Your first priority should always be your health. Many providers offer treatment on a lien basis, meaning you can get the care you need now and pay later when your claim is resolved.
2Before speaking with an insurance company, make sure you have the facts. An official police report is the most reliable record of what happened and can help establish liability An experienced attorney can assist you in obtaining this report and using it to protect your interests.
3Consider having your case reviewed by a qualified attorney who can guide you through the next steps. They will safeguard your rights and pursue the compensation you deserve.
