Crawford County, KS (January 19, 2026) – A high-speed crash involving a pickup truck and a sedan resulted in one fatality and left two others injured in southeastern Kansas. The collision occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Kansas Highway 126, just west of U.S. Highway 69, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
Investigators say a 1995 Ford F-150 driven by 37-year-old Craig Silvey of Cherokee was traveling westbound on K-126 at a high rate of speed while attempting to pass several vehicles. During the maneuver, the Ford collided head-on with an eastbound 2023 Chevy Malibu.
The force of the impact caused the Ford to veer off the road and roll over. Silvey was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.
Two occupants of the Chevy Malibu were transported to a nearby hospital. The driver, a 16-year-old girl, suffered minor injuries, while her passenger, a 48-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries, according to KHP officials.
The crash led to significant traffic disruptions along the highway as emergency personnel worked to clear the scene and begin their investigation.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Craig Silvey, and we extend our thoughts to those recovering from injuries sustained in this tragic collision.
