Manatee County, FL (May 23, 2026) – A 28-year-old Wauchula man lost his life Friday afternoon following a multi-vehicle crash on State Road 62 east of Bunker Hill Rd in Manatee County.
According to reports, the man was driving a Nissan sedan westbound on SR-62 around 4 p.m. on Friday, May 22. Investigators said the car crossed the center line and struck an oncoming semi-tractor trailer driven by a 66-year-old Kissimmee man.

Three people from Lakeland were inside the SUV, while the pickup carried three people from Nokomis and Sarasota. No other injuries were reported.
The driver of the sedan died at the scene. No names were released in the initial report on the wreck.
Troopers continue working to determine all factors that led up to the collision. We extend heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the man who died.
How Debris From Highway Crashes Can Create Additional Dangers
After a serious roadway collision, debris can quickly become a hazard for nearby drivers. Broken vehicle parts, shattered glass, and scattered cargo may spread across several lanes within seconds. Drivers approaching the roadway often have very little time to react, especially on rural highways or roads with higher speed limits.
Secondary impacts involving debris are common after multi-vehicle crashes. Even when drivers avoid the original vehicles, loose parts can still strike tires, windshields, or the underside of another car. This may lead to loss of control or additional damage.
Road conditions, visibility, and traffic flow can also affect how quickly drivers notice hazards ahead. In some cases, vehicles behind the first collision become involved simply because there is not enough distance to stop safely before reaching debris spread across the roadway.
