Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do if I'm involved in a two-vehicle crash like this one?
Call 911, stay in a safe location if possible, and wait for police and fire crews to arrive. Avoid moving a seriously injured person unless there is an immediate danger, such as fire.
Why are injuries often more severe in car-versus-pickup truck crashes?
Pickup trucks are typically heavier and sit higher than passenger cars, so a collision can transfer more force into the smaller vehicle and its occupants, raising the chance of serious injury.
What determines whether a patient is flown to a trauma center instead of driven by ambulance?
Paramedics on scene weigh factors like the severity of injuries, distance to the nearest trauma center, and road or traffic conditions. Helicopter transport is generally reserved for cases where time saved could affect the outcome.
