Crystal River, FL (January 21, 2026) – Two women were killed, and one man was injured in a multi-vehicle crash at US-19 and W Venable St in Crystal River. The collision happened around 9 p.m. on February 20.

According to reports, a Ford F-250 was traveling south on US-19 when the driver turned left into the path of a Buick Enclave. The Buick was struck and then pushed into the path of a third vehicle that was also heading south on US-19.

After the impact, the Ford overturned and came to rest on the shoulder of the roadway. The driver of the Buick, a 73-year-old man from Iowa, suffered minor injuries.

Two female passengers in the Buick, both in their 70s and also from Iowa, died at the scene. No other injuries were reported in the crash. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collision, and additional details may be released as they become available. We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Why Left-Turn Collisions at Busy Highways Are Often Severe

Intersections along major highways like US-19 can become dangerous when vehicles attempt left turns across active traffic. Drivers must judge both speed and distance carefully. A small miscalculation can result in a serious crash.

When a vehicle turns into oncoming traffic, the impact often occurs at the side of another vehicle. Side impacts can cause significant damage and may lead to additional collisions, especially on multi-lane roads with steady traffic flow.

High-speed corridors in Citrus County carry both local and through traffic. When one crash pushes a vehicle into another lane, it can quickly involve multiple vehicles and increase the severity of injuries.
