Las Vegas, NV (May 17, 2026) – A two-vehicle crash shut down a freeway ramp in Las Vegas early after a Toyota Tacoma overturned near the connection from northbound I-11 to southbound I-15. Police said the roadway closure began shortly after 6 a.m. on Friday, May 15.
According to preliminary details, the vehicles involved were a gray Toyota Tacoma and a gray Toyota Scion. The Tacoma flipped over during the collision, blocking part of the ramp while emergency units worked nearby. One person was taken to a local hospital after being wounded.
Drivers were asked to avoid Exit 76A and use another route while the ramp remained closed. The people involved had not been publicly identified at the time of publication.
Police are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the roadway overturn. We hope the person receiving medical treatment recovers quickly.
Why Vehicle Rollovers Often Lead to Freeway Ramp Closures
Freeway ramps are commonly closed after rollovers because overturned vehicles can block narrow lanes and create hazards for approaching traffic. These road connections often have limited shoulder space, making cleanup and vehicle removal more difficult than on wider highways. Traffic backups may also increase the risk of secondary roadway problems if drivers cannot slow down safely.
In many cases, crews must clear debris, leaking fluids, or damaged guardrails before traffic can move again. Tow equipment may also take additional time to reach elevated ramps or curved freeway connectors. Temporary closures help create safer conditions while damaged vehicles are removed and traffic patterns return to normal. Even when only a small number of vehicles are involved, these shutdowns can affect morning travel across a large section of the freeway system.
