San Francisco, CA (July 16, 2026) – A bicyclist died on Tuesday morning after a traffic collision on the 200 block of Sixth St in San Francisco’s West SoMa neighborhood. The crash was reported shortly after 4:00 a.m. on July 14.

According to available information, the man, believed to be about 50 years old, was riding a bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle. Emergency units provided lifesaving care at the roadway before taking him to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, where he later died.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police also stated that alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been contributing factors. The identity of the man has not yet been released.

Investigators continue working to determine the circumstances that led to the collision. We extend our sincere condolences to the man’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time.

Why Investigators Examine Multiple Factors in Bicycle Fatalities

Fatal bicycle collisions are often reviewed through a detailed process that considers roadway design, lighting, traffic patterns, and the movements of all parties involved. Investigators may also examine physical evidence, vehicle damage, witness statements, and any available surveillance footage to establish a timeline.

Medical findings can help explain the nature of the injuries, while roadway measurements and visibility conditions may provide additional context. In cases where the driver remains on the roadway, investigators can gather statements and inspect the vehicle as part of the review. This process helps build a more complete picture of how the collision occurred before final findings are reached.
