Perry Hall, MD (September 10, 2026) – A 68-year-old cyclist was killed Tuesday, September 8, after being struck by a dump truck in Perry Hall.

The crash happened around 8:35 a.m. near the intersection of Northwind Road and Trailwood Road. According to the Baltimore County Police Department, the cyclist was struck by a dump truck and pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation found that the dump truck was traveling westbound on Northwind Road before turning right and striking the cyclist. The Baltimore County Police Department’s Crash Team was investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.

Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family, friends, and loved ones following this tragic loss. We hope they find comfort and support as they cope with this difficult time.

How Can Cyclists and Truck Drivers Share Roads More Safely?

Large trucks can create visibility challenges for cyclists because their size can make it difficult for drivers to see smaller road users near the vehicle. Cyclists should remain aware of trucks approaching from behind and avoid positioning themselves where they may be difficult to see. Wearing bright or reflective clothing and using appropriate bicycle lighting can also improve visibility.

Truck drivers should carefully check mirrors and blind spots before turning, particularly at intersections. Right turns can create a serious conflict when a cyclist is traveling alongside a truck or approaching the intersection at the same time. Drivers should reduce speed and make sure the path is clear before completing a turn.

Cyclists can reduce their risk by following traffic signals and remaining predictable around intersections. Keeping a safe position on the roadway and watching for vehicle turn signals can provide additional warning of a potential conflict. Extra caution is important near large commercial vehicles, where blind spots and wide turning movements can make it harder for drivers and cyclists to see one another.
