DALLAS, Dallas County, Texas, Sept. 15, 2026 — Two people were taken to the hospital Tuesday morning, September 15, after a DART paratransit van overturned in a two-vehicle crash in Dallas, according to authorities. The crash happened at the intersection of Forest Lane and Webb Chapel Road.

Dallas Fire-Rescue said crews responded to the intersection around 6:30 a.m. after a collision between the paratransit van and another vehicle. The van ended up on its side, authorities said.

DART confirmed that one of its paratransit vehicles was involved in the crash. The driver and one passenger were taken to a hospital, and officials said their injuries appeared to be minor.

The investigation is ongoing. We hope those who were hurt recover fully.

What Makes Intersections Like This One So Crash-Prone

Intersections concentrate risk in a way open roadways do not. Vehicles cross paths at angles, drivers make left turns against oncoming traffic, and speeds are rarely uniform. A rollover at an intersection often starts with a side impact that catches a vehicle’s wheels and tips it, instead of a straight-on collision.

Engineers have found a handful of fixes that consistently cut crash counts at intersections. Roundabouts remove the need for vehicles to cross opposing lanes at speed. Protected left-turn signal phases separate turning traffic from oncoming through-traffic. Better lighting and clearer sightlines give drivers more time to react, and median barriers keep vehicles from drifting into cross-traffic paths in the first place.

Driver behavior still matters. Distraction and misjudged gaps in traffic are common factors at intersections, but the physical layout of a road often determines how forgiving a mistake turns out to be. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, 24 percent of fatally injured occupants in crashes classified as other, which were mostly rollovers, were belted in 2023.

Where do most traffic crashes happen?

A large share of crashes occur at or near intersections, where turning movements and crossing traffic create more opportunities for a mistake.
