Frequently Asked Questions
Do motorcycle crashes happen more frequently at intersections?
Yes. Intersections are a common crash point for motorcyclists because other drivers frequently fail to see or judge the speed of an oncoming bike before turning or merging.
Does the road surface make a difference for rider safety?
It can. Uneven pavement, debris, wet surfaces, and lane markings affect motorcycle traction and stability more than they do for cars, since a bike has less contact with the road.
What gear helps reduce injuries for riders?
A DOT-approved helmet, a protective jacket and pants, gloves, and over-the-ankle boots are commonly cited as reducing the severity of injuries in a motorcycle crash.
What usually causes motorcycle accidents?
Common factors include other vehicles failing to yield or see the rider, speed, impaired driving, and road hazards, though the cause of any specific crash is determined by investigators.
