Daly City, CA (January 2, 2026) – A suspected DUI crash on northbound Interstate 280 left one person dead and two others injured on Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal single-vehicle collision occurred at approximately 11:10 a.m. just north of Serramonte Blvd. CHP reports that the vehicle lost control and overturned in the northbound lanes. Emergency responders arrived to find three occupants inside, with one person trapped in the wreckage.
A 65-year-old woman, identified as a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second passenger, a 19-year-old woman from Contra Costa County, sustained minor injuries and was treated on-site.
The driver of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital for medical care. CHP indicated that the driver is expected to face charges related to driving under the influence and will be booked into San Mateo Jail once medically cleared.
The identity of the deceased victim has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
