Vale, NC (August 26, 2026) – A serious collision at a rural intersection in Lincoln County claimed the life of a 74-year-old Hickory man on Monday morning, August 24, just before 8:30 a.m. at Lackey Road and Houser Farm Road in Vale.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol identified the man as Ilie Nastase of Hickory. Troopers said Nastase failed to stop at a stop sign before his vehicle collided with another vehicle. Troopers determined that neither speed nor driver impairment contributed to the fatal collision. Our condolences go out to Ilie Nastase’s family and loved ones.
