Vale, NC (August 26, 2026) – A serious collision at a rural intersection in Lincoln County claimed the life of a 74-year-old Hickory man on Monday morning, August 24, just before 8:30 a.m. at Lackey Road and Houser Farm Road in Vale.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol identified the man as Ilie Nastase of Hickory. Troopers said Nastase failed to stop at a stop sign before his vehicle collided with another vehicle. Troopers determined that neither speed nor driver impairment contributed to the fatal collision.
